Ultra-Wideband Antenna Gain Enhancement Based on a Compact Metasurface

摘要

A compact metasurface reflector is designed for Ultra-Wideband (UWB) antenna gain enhancement. The proposed 2-bit circular metasurface reflector is constructed by arranging arrow-shaped unit cells with an embedded nest ring phase profile, thus achieving synthesized phase distribution for an outstanding multi-frequency focusing effect. A UWB Quasi-Yagi patch antenna is designed to evaluate the performance of the proposed metasurface. The result shows that by employing the proposed metasurface reflector, without affecting the -10 dB impedance bandwidth (5.6-18 GHz), the antenna gain is significantly enhanced throughout the ultra-wide operating band, achieving a gain increasement over 6 dB from 6.8-20 GHz and a peak gain enhancement up to 15 dB at 9.2 GHz.
