摘要

Research in the domain of school bullying among Chinese children has sharply increased in the last decade, as scholars outside China have alerted Chinese scholars of the phenomenon. This chapter deals with an overview of Chinese literature on bullying, followed by a description of the incidence of bullying among Chinese students and the detrimental effects of bullying on children’s physical health and psychological well-being. It describes governmental efforts against school bullying and some promising interventions for children who are victims or aggressors. International literature on school bullying among Chinese children has grown slowly, although the domestic literature has risen dramatically since the year 2000. Variations in the incidence rates of bullying found in different studies can be attributed to data collection involving different times, samples and measuring methods. Bullying research in Mainland China is a relatively new area that intrigues more and more scholars and motivates them to explore the phenomenon.
