Reappraisal of Cololejeunea balansae (Steph.) Mizut., C. grushvitzkiana Pócs, and C. yoshinagana (S.Hatt.) Mizut. (Hepaticae, Lejeuneaceae)

Cololejeunea grushvitzkiana Pócs and C. yoshinagana (S.Hatt.) Mizut., previously known only from Vietnam and Japan respectively, have been treated as synonyms of C. balansae (Steph.) Mizut., which was reported only from Vietnam. Our studies show that C. balansae is conspecific with C. goebelii (Gottsche ex Schiffn.) Schiffn. C. grushvitzkiana differs from C. goebelii primarily in the position of the hyaline papilla, unicellular stylus, oblong leaf lobes, and usual presence of a second tooth of the leaf lobule. C. yoshinagana is distinguished from C. goebelii by the hyaline papilla at the tip of the first tooth of the leaf lobule. C. grushvitzkiana and C. yoshinagana are thus reinstated as separate species.
