摘要

The Pearl River Delta is a low-lying, densely populated and highly urbanized region in China. This chapter briefly introduces its environmental setting, geomorphology and evolutional history, as well as socioeconomic characteristics. The major environmental issues and related solutions are discussed, including flooding, sand mining, land reclamation, saltwater incursion, hypoxia, environmental pollution, biodiversity loss, and sea-level rise.
