Abstract

The genus Vitalianthus (Lejeuneaceae) was considered endemic to Brazil, containing two species. A third species, Vitalianthus guangxianus R.L.Zhu, Q.He & Y.M.Wei sp. nov., from Guangxi, south-west China, is described and illustrated. It differs from the other Vitalianthus species mainly in its smaller size and dentate margin of female bracteoles and female bract lobules. The discovery of this new species expands the geographical range of Vitalianthus to Asia. A key to the known species of Vitalianthus is provided.
