Abstract

The construction of two-dimensional photonic bandgap (PBG) crystals in the terahertz frequency region, based on the use of metal-coated cylinders, was investigated. At 2.2 and 4.7 THz, the lattice constants for the observed PBGs were 140 and 70 μm, respectively. The metal-coated realized PBGs were found to be robust against the positional disorders.
