Abstract

Complex relationship and multi-level massive of spatial data need to be expressed in forms of better visual conception as new cartographic visualization methods show up. Definition of traditional thematic maps is so strict that limits the expressions, so a new confine of definition that we call it geo-infographics is defined. It includes both traditional thematic mapping and new expressions referring to infographics, such as cartograms, schematic maps, topological maps, concept maps, grid maps, etc. This paper analyses the concept and construction of traditional thematic maps combining with principles and methods of infographics, and declares the possibility of putting them into use. Finally unifies these expressions as geo-infographics to tremendously enrich spatial data representations.
