Abstract

ADM catalyst modified by Ni and Mn was prepared, and synthesis for higher alcohols from synthesis gas on this catalyst was studied. Catalytic activity and C2+OH selectivity sharply increased as Ni was added as promoter. When ADM catalyst was co-promoted by Mn and Ni, alcohols selectivity of 76.22% was obtained under the conditions of 573 K, 10 MPa, and GHSV = 5500/hr. The liquid products were mainly linear alcohols. The content of hydrocarbon and CO2 could be controlled to a lower level. The dispersion of Ni on the catalyst was improved with the addition of Mn, and consequently, the activity and C2+OH selectivity could be promoted. The catalyst showed good stability during the reaction. Sulfur in catalyst was lost primarily in the form of COS into tail gas.
