Abstract

The grain boundary stress was induced by the secondary phase in composite ceramics with different thermal expansions and elastic moduli. The secondary phase might be the grain boundary phase or secondary particulate phase in the multiphase composite ceramics. The roles of the grain boundary, especially for the toughening effects, were indicated and the discussion was given.
