Abstract

To coordinate the relationships between regional integrated capacities of coastal zone and sustainable social- economical development as well as to enforce and implement the integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) and the strategy of sustainable development are the hot spots concerned by the government agencies and societies. ICZM needs a coordination and cooperation among multi-sectors and an integrated application of social, economical, environmental, juristical, etc. knowledge and technologies to implement a sound ICZM. Based on a reviewing literatures on ICZM, the following aspects can be summarized in the recent development: changes in anthropic and natural processes and the responses of coastal zones; coastal planning based on different objects; assessments in ICZM; application of new technology and methods; interest conflicts and relation coordination; conservation and management of key ecological areas; legislation and adjustment of policies and rule of law. Based on a review of development of ICZM, the perspectives on ICZM have been discussed.
