Abstract

The acetalization and ketalization of different aldehydes and ketones with glycol catalyzed by molecular sieve (HMAS-5) were studied. Effect of reaction time, mole ratio of reactants and amount of catalyst on the yield of acetals (ketals) were investigated. Results showed that HMAS-5 was an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of acetals (ketals).
