Abstract

N-Butyl-4-(aza-15-crown-5)-1,8-naphthalimide (BACN) was synthesized through the reaction of 3,6-dioxa-1,8-octylene bis-p-tosylate with N-butyl-4-bis(2- hydroxyethyl)amino-1,8-naphthalimide prepared from diethanolamine and N-butyl-4-bromo-1,8-naphthalimide. The compounds were characterized by NMR, IR and MS spectra, and BACN can recognize Li+ and Na+ in dichloromethane with blue-shift of the absorption and fluorescence spectra.
