Synthesis and characterization of thermotropic liquid crystalline block copolymers with THT-6 and PAr

Abstract

Block copolymers containing different compositions of terephthaloyl bis(4-oxybenzoyl) (triad) mesogen and polyarylate (PAr) units are synthesized by polycondensation of two oligomers. The structure and thermal properties of the block copolymers are investigated by IR, POM, DSC. Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline nematic phase of these block copolymers are identified by DSC and POM with a hot stage. There is no phase separation at lower temperature within these copolymers but biphase behaviour is observed above 280°C.
