Abstract
The simulation and expression of geological faults is an essential technique of the modeling approaches for the complex geologic bodies. The research domains of this paper are the basic theories and essential techniques of the structural modeling techniques of complex geological entities contained faults. The structural modeling techniques of complex geological entities contained reverse faults are discussed; and a series of approaches are proposed. Based on the practical geological exploration, data types that expressed geological faults in 3D are analyzed and a normative database format for geological faults is designed. Two kinds of modeling approaches for faults, such as modeling technique of fault based on stratum recover and based on interpolation in subareas, are compared. The Unified Modeling Technique for stratum and fault, a novel approach, is presented to solve the puzzled problems of reverse faults with multivalued surfaces, syn-sedimentary faults and faults terminated within geological models. In order to confirm the practical result of this method, a case study of fault model of bed rock in the Beijing Olympic Green District is presented.
