Abstract

In this paper, a broadband circularly polarized hybrid dielectric resonator antenna is proposed, which is excited by a cross-slot and resonates at 3.5 GHz. Two metallic vias change the electric field distribution and excite an additional quasi-mode. The top patch is introduced to bring another resonator point to broaden the impedance bandwidth. The proposed antenna achieves a -10 dB impedance bandwidth of approximately 31.4% (2.9-4.1 GHz) and a 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 34.4% (3-4.2 GHz). The dielectric resonator (DR) is compact, with dimension of 0.4 λ0 × 0.32 λ0 × 0.24 λ0. The proposed antenna is suitable for WLAN applications.
