Simulation of the EPC filling speed based on PLC control

Abstract

The causes of the blowhole formation and the decrease of casting density in EPC technology of gray cast iron are analyzed. The filling speed of gray iron EPC is controlled by Siemens PLC. The equations of filling speed and pressurization speed of EPC are deduced, and the influence of external factors on casting quality is analyzed. The tracking error of the filling speed is simulated and compared to that controlled by PI. The results show that if the filling speed of EPC is controlled by PLC, the density of the castings can be increased, the numbers of the pores can be induced and the quality of gray cast iron castings can be improved.
