Abstract
A new method for segmenting free-format handwritten Chinese characters is presented in this paper. Character elements and their topological relations are utilized to merge into the character image. Connected handwritten characters are separated according to the features of Chinese character strokes. Experimental results show that the method has satisfactory performance for segmenting free-format handwritten Chinese characters.
