Abstract

Scintillation ceramics are new generation of functional ceramics materials. Compared with scintillation single crystals, scintillation ceramics are of physical and chemical stable, low cost and easy to prepare with homogeneous doping. Preparation and properties of three mainly studied scintillation ceramics, Gd2O2S (gadolinium oxysulfide, GOS), (Y, Gd)2O3 (yttria-gadolinia, YGO) and Gd3Ga5O12 (gadolinium gallium garnet, GGG) are reviewed in details. The application status of scintillation ceramics in medical X-CT (X-ray computed tomography) is introduced. The prospect of future development for scintillation ceramics is also suggested.
