Abstract

This introduced the status of research on tetragonal phase stabilization in zirconia at room temperature. The mail mechanisms, such as surface energy theory and oxygen ion vacancies, were reviewed. Strain energy, water vapor, anionic impurities, surface coation, nucleation and structure similarities, which affect the stabilization of t-ZrO2 nanocrystallite, were discussed in detail.
