Abstract

In order to prepare lead-free BaTi03-based positive temperature coefficient of resistance (abbreviated to PTCR) ceramics, 2.0, 4.0, 6.0, 8.0, 10 mol% of Bi1/2Na1/2TiO3 (abbreviated to BNT) added Ba0.92Sr0.08TiO3 (abbreviated to BST) were fabricated by the conventional solid state reaction. Phase and microstructure characterizations revealed that no obvious BNT phase was found in the final sintered BNT-added BST ceramics, indicating that the BNT phase and BST phase formed a solid-solution during sintering. Without doping other special elements, an obvious PTCR effect was observed in the BNT-added BST samples sintered at 1350 °C in air. To reveal the origin of PTCR effect in the BNT-added BST ceramics, the dielectric properties were also investigated. The BNT-mixed BST (abbreviated to BST-BNT) PTCR ceramics exhibited higher Curie temperatures than that of BST sample.
