Religious life and faith in life: A review of christianity and christians in beijing today

Abstract

As stated by the author, Christianity and Christians in Beijing Today is one of her new explorations in her study of sociology of religion. Even so, it seems appropriate to consider it not only as a personal expedition, but also an exploration for the scholars of sociology of religion in China as an academic community. Through detailed accounts of Christian lives and related discussions, the author in fact was emphasizing the importance of the study of Christianity in practice, not only as in text. In other words, faith must be expressed in lives, or as lived faith. And any faith detached from living context is nothing but some abstract doctrines. Furthermore, any religion that has become ideology is doomed to vanish, taken place by other more vital religions. Or, at least, it has to be reformed to revive.
