Abstract

The build-up of a self-started stretched-pulse fiber laser was experimentally investigated using time-stretched dispersive Fourier transform spectroscopy. Interestingly, soliton pulsations were observed in a rich set of clustered Q-switching bunches in the turbulent and rapidly-evolving pre-mode-locking states of the laser.
