Abstract

The experimental results on the quenching of self mode-locking effect in free running or Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with fullerenes were observed. It was found that the self mode-locking phenomenon in free running or Q-switched Nd:YAG laser was partly or completely quenched when some fullerenes samples, such as C60 toluene solution and C60 in polymethyl methacrylate, were placed into the laser cavity. The degree of quenching is related to the thickness and concentration of the fullerenes samples. A qualitative analysis for the experimental results show that the nonlinear absorption of the intracavity fullerenes results in this effect.
