Abstract
This study shows that ZrCl4 has been successfully grafted onto the frameworks of mesoporous silica MCM-41 materials. X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron micrograph (TEM), energy dispersive spectra (EDS), N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm measurement proved that the zirconium was confined in the channels of MCM-41. 29Si MAS NMR spectra showed that Q3 silanols played an important role in the grafting reaction. The possible mechanisms for grafting reaction and the consequent hydrolysis reaction are proposed.
