Abstract
The oscillations in the magnetization-induced second harmonic generation (MSHG) signal asymmetry during layer-by-layer Co film growth on Cu(001) were examined for s-polarized incident light in transversal geometry. The phenomena is attributed to the variation in magnetic surface susceptibility due to the change in number of step edge atoms during film growth. Results show that the zero crossing points in the magnetic asymmetry varies with the growth conditions.
