Abstract

Aiming at the problems that exist in the study of spatial temporal data modeling and temporal geographic information system (GIS), a general object-oriented spatio-temporal data model (GOO-STDM) is proposed. On the basis of the essential attributes and behavior of geo-objects, the model makes use of object-oriented approach to encapsulate a geo-object as a whole of space, theme and time, which encompasses semantics of what/where/when and, presents better extensible to different applications. Based on GOO-STDM and Geodatabase, a prototype temporal GIS (TGIS) with bi-temporal characteristics is developed. With customized ArcGIS, the prototype temporal GIS both supports requirements of spatio-temporal representation and inherits the functions of ArcGIS.
