Abstract
The query requirements of the multimedia database were studied. The structured multimedia object query language(MOQL) was proposed. The language can support the multimedia data queries based on type, structure, synchronous relations, temporal relations and contents. Taking the relational DBZ database system as the storage mechanism, a set of algebraic operators and some transformation rules were defined, which are used to transform the MOQL queries defined by the users into a set of algebraic formula, and perform algebraic optimization. Then, the algebraic formula can be transformed into executable process in DBZ.
