Abstract

Three coordination polymers based on m-phenylenediacrylic acid (H2mpda) with manganese(II) and cobalt(II), [Mn(Hmpda)2(H2O)2]n (1), Co(Hmpda)2(H2O)2]n (2), [Co(mpda)(H2O)2] (3) were synthesized by the hydrothermal methods and their structures and magnetic properties were fully characterized. Compounds 1 and 2 are isomorphous coordination compounds in which carboxylate-bridged square-grid 2D sheets are separated by bilayers of Hmpda. While compound 3 is composed of 1D coordination chains based on binuclear units with double carboxylate bridges. Magnetic investigations on the compounds have been carried out and revealed weak antiferromagnetic exchange mediated through the carboxylate bridges.
