Abstract
This paper considers nonlinear second-sideband Raman excitations driven by standing-wave lasers in the strong Raman coupling regime. These excitations are shown here to be applicable to get macroscopic superposition of motional wave packets with spatial separation comparable to the dimension of the relevant ionic transition wavelengths. Special attention is paid to the generation of a novel motional wave packet state that persists coherence in a wide spatial range. The strong field limit has the advantage that it allows a fast generation of motional wave packets with macroscopic dimensions.
