Abstract

Karyological observations were made on 35 species belonging to 15 genera of Lejeuneaceae (Jungermanniopsida, Marchantiophyta) from China and Singapore. The chromosome numbers of 26 species representing five genera (Colura, Lepidolejeunea, Lopholejeunea, Schiffneriolejeunea, and Tuyamaella) are reported for the first time. The karyotype of an additional 13 species are presented. The length and width of the largest chromosomes and the smallest ones are provided. For Lejeuneaceae, four sets of chromosomes n = 8, n = 9, n = 10 and n = 16 have been reported. However, no classification based on the karyological data present here, could be derived.
