Abstract

Very recently, Lee, Kim, and Yoo proposed a modified remote user authentication scheme using smart cards [Computer Standards and Interfaces 27 (2) (2005) 181-183] to prevent the parallel session attack. In this paper, we demonstrate that Lee-Kim-Yoo's scheme is vulnerable to a reflection attack. Therefore, an improved scheme is proposed to resolve previous problems. We conclude that our improved scheme not only withstands the reflection attack and the parallel session attack, but also is more efficient compared with Lee-Kim-Yoo's scheme.
