Abstract

Grid applications are increasingly extending from scientific computing to commercial field, where the service discovery is a key and challenging issue. Unfortunately, it can not directly be supported by technologies of Web services and so far, no existing schemes can effectively solve this issue in scope of the Internet. In this paper1, we propose a general service discovery middleware GSPD that provides abilities both for service providers to publish services and for consumers to discover the expected Grid service that meets specified requirements on the Internet, without knowing of the complex process. The paper presents the implementation and software design of GSPD. GSPD consists of two-level registry, which enables it to adapt to persistent and transient Grid services. Moreover, we set up a prototype and test the feasibility of GSPD.
