Abstract
Gouy diffuse-layer theory is revisited to model the electric potential and ions distributions in the neighbourhood of charged surfaces in contact with phosphate buffers. The exact analytical solution of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation is given. We show that the attenuation length of the potential depends both on the ionic strength and on the pH of the buffer.
