Abstract
Designing surface filters is an interesting topic in geometry processing. Most research work of surface filtering is conducted in spatial domain, and usually is limited to surface smoothing. By introducing the concept of geometry images into geometry filtering, we illustrate how digital image filtering techniques can be applied and extended to geometry filtering. To adopt geometry images into our applications, we first present how to create geometry images. Filtered three-dimensional models can be reconstructed from these filtered images, after the associated geometry images are processed in image processing toolbox. We gave a few typical examples of three-dimensional surface filtering effects and proved the efficiency of the approach.
