Abstract

In this paper, a novel Landstorfer Yagi antenna loaded with zero-index metamaterials (ZIM) for gain enhancement is proposed. The antenna is composed of a printed 3-element Landstorfer Yagi antenna fed by microstrip line and a series of ZIM. Radiating at 2.45GHz, the proposed antenna can be equipped into the wireless communication system for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN). The impedance bandwidth (|S11|<-10dB) of proposed antenna covers from 2.4 GHz to 2.49 GHz, and the gain varies from 9.59 dBi to 10.61 dBi over the impedance bandwidth. The application of ZIM presents a gain enhancement of 1.4 - 2.13 dB of the proposed antenna within the operating band.
