G.3 Ten Highlights in the Development of China’s Cruise Industry, 2020–2021

Abstract

The top issues of China’s cruise industry in 2020–2021 involved the cruise industry’s part in national and domestic 14th Five-Year Plan initiatives; the layout of international cruise lines in China; the manufacture of China’s first mega cruise ship; the development of the domestic cruise supply chain; the development of the domestic cruise fleet; the improvement of the independent operation capacity of the cruise fleet; the pilot of Cruise to Nowhere itineraries; the construction of cruise ports; the cruise industry policies, etc. In particular, the 14th Five-Year Plan defined the direction of the cruise industry development, leading to the high-quality development of China’s cruise economy. International cruise lines invested further in the Chinese market, boosting confidence in the development of China’s cruise market. The construction of China’s mega cruise ship was as scheduled, accelerating the extension of China’s cruise industry chain. The domestic cruise ship supply chain system was being built at a faster pace, providing strong support for the construction of China’s cruise ships; China completed its first five-star red flag cruise, closing the gap in China’s high-end cruise operations; The size of China’s own cruise fleet had seen a significant increase, enhancing the global reach of China’s cruise market; China was organizing its own cruise operation teams at a faster pace, enhancing its domestic cruise operation capability effectively. Hainan had introduced the Regulations for Cruise to Nowhere, indicating the substantial launch of Ocean Getaway itineraries. China’s cruise port construction was in process, increasing the capacity of cruise ports effectively. Policies to support the cruise industry were being stepped up to provide effective support for the development of the cruise industry.
