Focusing Metalens Base on 3-Bit Circular Polarization Multiplexing Metasurface

Abstract

In current research, metasurfaces usually realize the control of a single type of the polarized electromagnetic wave, which would limit the application of phase metasurfaces. In this work, by combining the geometric phase and the transmission phase, a new polarization multiplexing metasurface is proposed to independently manipulate the left-hand circular polarization (LCP) and right-hand circular polarization (RCP) incidences. As a proof of concept demonstration, we design a focusing metalens that can concentrate the LCP and RCP waves to different focal points. This method has the potential to increase the channel capacity of the communication system and can be used in subsequent wireless communication networks.
