Abstract

A new Li2O-Nb2O5-TiO2 (LNT) system ceramic composite with the Li2O: Nb2O5: TiO2 mole ratio of 5 : 1 : 5 has been investigated. The compound is composed of two phases, the Li2TiO3 and "M-phase" solid solution phase. The two phases constitute a special structure in the new ceramic composite. The microwave dielectric ceramic composite has low sintering temperature (∼ 1100 °C) and good microwave dielectric properties of a relatively high permittivity (∼ 36), high Q * f value up to 10,482 (5.9 GHz), and near zero temperature coefficient (∼ 12.2 ppm/°C). Adding 1 wt.% B2O3 could effectively lower the sintering temperature from 1100 to 900 °C and does not induce degradation of the microwave dielectric properties, which indicate that ceramic would be a promising candidate for low-temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) applications.
