Abstract
A novel, sensitive, selective and reproducible nitric oxide (NO) microsensor is developed for direct measurement of NO in vitro and in vivo. Using the microsensor, the first direct measurements NO release from the rat hippocampus are made. NO levels are increased by stimulated with L-arginine and acetylcholine. L-N(ω)-nitro-arginine, a NO synthase inhibitor, decreases the NO increase induced by L-arginine and acetylcholine. The effect of sodium nitroprusside, a NO donor, is also performed.
