Abstract
The growth and decay kinetics of nitrifying biomass determine the nitrification capacity in activated sludge systems. The decay kinetics of nitrifying biomass was built by mathematical model analysis, and the determination method for decay rate constant was established based on ammonium uptake rate and repeatability validation. The decay kinetics of nitrifying biomass in Bailonggang Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), Quyang Wastewater Treatment Plant and Zhuyuan Second Wastewater Treatment Plant all conformed to the first-order kinetics, and the measured decay rate constants at 20°C were 0.176, 0.175 and 0.176 d-1, respectively.
