Design of a Spectrometer for Macroscopic On-site Evaluation on Endoscopic Ultrasound-guided Fine-needle Aspiration Biopsy

Abstract

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (EUS-FNAB) is a crucial step in the pathological diagnosis of pancreatic space-occupying diseases. Macroscopic on-site evaluation is a clinical solution for EUS-FNAB assessment. However, the relevant assessment process is time-consuming and labor-intensive which does not have consistent standards. Our research aims to efficiently and accurately differentiate various components in aspirates and assess pancreatic tissue content. Our multidimensional imaging system can assess aspirate samples from both macroscopic and microscopic perspectives, meeting clinical gross evaluation and pathological detection requirements. We utilize hyperspectral imaging to acquire spectral data and analyze sample components to determine macroscopic core tissue content. This research presents a feasible clinical solution to streamline the macroscopic on-site evaluation process and enhances assessment accuracy with high-quality imaging.
