Abstract

Oxidative desulfurization (ODS) was carried out using a method in which ionic liquid [HMIm]BF4 was used as a catalyst and solvent. Under different reaction temperatures, the sulfur removal of dibenzothiophene (DBT)-containing model oil reached 60-93%. The ionic liquid [HMIm]BF4 was recycled 6 times without a significant decrease in activity. Furthermore, the ionic liquid was also efficient for the ODS of commercial diesel.
