Abstract

Hollow mesoporous aluminosilicate spheres with highly ordered cubic (Iaover(3, -)d) symmetry were prepared and extensive experimentation was carried out to find the optimized conditions for the formation of both hollow spheres and cubic mesostructure. It is demonstrated that, besides the composition of the precursor sol, the aging and hydrothermal treating temperatures were critical to the fabrication of hollow structured spheres. The optimized ratios of Al2O3/ SiO2 and TPAOH/SiO2 were evidenced to be around 1/100 and 20/100, and the aging and hydrothermal treating temperatures were found to be lower than 18 °C and 135 °C, respectively.
