Abstract

In this study, CdS quantum dot (QD)-embedded silica films have been prepared by sol-gel method and employed as luminescent down-shifting layer on the front side of a crystalline Si solar cell to improve its performance. Measurements under standard test conditions (AM1.5, 100 mW/cm2) show that the short-circuit current of Si solar cell with silica film containing CdS QDs is improved maximally 4.0% as compared to the one with pure glass.
