Abstract

Basic ionic liquid [bmim]0H has been introduced as catalyst and reaction medium for Knoevenagel and Perkin reactions. The Knoevenagel condensation proceeded efficiently in [bmim]OH at room temperature in 85%-95% yields within 10 to 30 min. The ionic liquid could be reused conveniently. Moreover, [bmim]OH has been preliminarily investigated in Perkin reaction.
