A UHF RFID reader front-end with high linearity and low noise figure

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Noise figure and linearity requirements for RF front-end in a UHF RFID reader receiver are recapitulated based on multiple protocols and the proposed direct conversion architecture. The compact three-stage circuitry can accommodate the large in-band self-jammer regulated by backscatter modulation scheme. Fabricated using IBM 0.18 μm CMOS process, the RF front-end is capable of operating in the presence of -4.4 dBm continuous-wave interference while drawing 6.9 mA from 3.3 V power supply. The input-referred third-order intercept point and noise figure is about 13 dBm and 23 dB.
