N2 - We studied the reaction kinetics, the change of copper salts catalyst and behaviour of DMF in the Ullmann condensation reaction of 4‐chloro‐1,8‐naphthalic anhydride with DMF under the catalysis of CuSO4 by using u.v., e.s.r., n.m.r. and m.s. DMF is a good amination reagent, and its reducing effect to cupric salts accelerates the reaction.
