Abstract

In view of the difficulty in removing nitrogen from municipal solid waste leachate, a sequential batch reactor was used, and the method of gradually increasing the content of leachate was adopted. And a combined process consisting of partial nitrification (PN) and anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) was used to simulate the treatment of actual leachate. Meanwhile, the changes of nitrogen cycling functional genes were also investigated and the functional intensity of different nitrogen removal pathways were analyzed. The results showed that the total nitrogen removal rate of the system was more than 90%, the removal load was 0.51 kg/(m3-d), the removal effect was stable, and the deep treatment of nitrogen was realized. In addition , through the determination of nitrogen cycle functional genes in the system, it was found that with the addition of leachate, the dominant position of anaerobic anammox denitrification reaction decreased, and the synergistic denitrification capacity of denitrification process increased. Combined with the actual operation data, it was shown that the enrichment of denitrifying bacteria improved the performance of anammox system to a certain extent.
