Abstract
Nitrite is a common nitrogen-containing compound in nature and artificial culture environment? and has a toxic effect on aquaculture animals. We used sodium nitrite to expose wild rice eel Monopterus albus populations in five lakes (Poyang lake, Dongting lake? Hongze lake, Caohu lake? Taihu lake) to detect the expression levels of immune and inflammatory related genes such as MHC-2A, Hepcidin, COX, 5-PO and HSP in the liver, we also detected the SOD and CAT enzymes activity? CSH and CSSG content and oxidative stress markers LPO and MDA content in the antioxidant system of liver. Furthermore? genes related to myogenic regulatory factors in muscle, MYOG, MYOD, MRF4, and MYF5, have also been tested for their expression levels. The results showed that the immune capacity of PYH and DTH populations of rice eel in different local populations was relatively higher when exposed to nitrite; PYH, CH and HZH populations had less inflammation; PYH and CH populations had high anti-oxidation ability during early exposure; CH population has better muscle growth and differentiation ability. Our results prove that there are differences in the physiological functions of rice eels from different geographical groups when facing the environmental stress, which provides a potential for selective genetic cross breeding and lays a foundation for the artificial selection of excellent varieties of rice field eels.
