Abstract
Innovation network is a frontier proposition of economic geography. Based on the data of Shanghai Industry Alliance and the invention patent data of incopat patent database, this paper uses the social network analysis to examine the structure and spatio-temporal evolution characteristics of Shanghai Industry Alliance Innovation Network. By using differences-in-differences model, it explores the innovation effects of Shanghai Industry Alliance Innovation Network. It is found that: (1) The overall structure of Shanghai Industry Alliance Innovation Network is loosely characterized by“low density and weak connection”. Enterprises play a leading role in the innovation network of industry alliances, and the structure varies significantly among different industries. (2) The local innovation actors play a critical role in Shanghai Industry Alliance Innovation Network and the participation of non-local innovation subjects is increasing. The local connections in Shanghai Industry Alliance Innovation Network show an obvious core circle structure, while the non-local connections show a dispersed layout with Shanghai as the origin. Meanwhile, there is significant heterogeneity in the spatial connections of four types of the Industry Alliance Innovation Network. (3) Shanghai Industry Alliance Innovation Network has a significant positive promotion effect on the innovation capability of member enterprises, and the innovation effect has significant heterogeneity among different spatial scales and actor attributes.
